Things To Bake – Rainbow Cake

Brighten up your day with a yummy slice of rainbow cake…

RAINBOW CAKE

Ingredients:

  • 12g unsalted butter
  • 225g plain flour
  • 150g caster sugar
  • 3 medium eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • food colouring
  • 350g icing sugar
  • 750g cream cheese

 

1. Mix the flour, sugar, milk and butter together in a bowl, then beat in the eggs. Divide the mixture evenly into 6, to each add a different food colouring and mix until smooth. 

2. Pour each of the coloured mixtures into greased 20cm cake tins and bake in a preheated oven 180c for 12 minutes.

3. Leave the sponges on a wire rack to cool. Once cool, cut off the outer layer of the sponge to reveal the coloured sponge.

4. Beat the cream cheese with a whisk, once smooth sift in the icing sugar. Place the bottom layer of sponge on the plate and then ice the top, then place the next layer on top. Repeat for all layers of sponge until you have a stack as below.

5. Spread the remaining icing over the sides and top of the cake and decorate as you wish. Then enjoy!

Things To Bake – Easter Biscuits!

Yummy Easter biscuits, a perfect way to enjoy the Easter Holidays with your little ones.

Ingredients:

  • 150g caster sugar
  • 200g unsalted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 400g plain flour
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 250g icing sugar
  • 2 tbsp water
  • food colourings of your choice

1. Mix the flour, sugar, milk and butter together in a bowl, then beat in the eggs until mixture becomes a dough.

2. Knead the dough on a floured work top for 5 minutes. Then, use a floured rolling pin to roll out the dough until it is roughly 7mm thick. Select your cookie cutters and stamp out your cookies.

3. Place the cut out cookies on a greased baking tray and pop in a preheated oven at 180c for 10-15mins.

4. Leave the cookies to cool on a wire rack. Once cool, create the icing by mixing together the icing sugar, cold water & food colouring, pop the icing in a piping bag and decorate.

Sunshine Eggs

Ingredients:

  • Bread
  • Butter
  • An Egg

Toast the bread and butter the toast…

Slice the buttered toast into sun-rays…

Fry the egg (sunny-side up)…

Pop the egg and the sun-rays on to a plate, along side some juice, and enjoy!

  • 1x Heart shaped cookie cutter

  • Bread

  • Jam
  • Blueberries (optional)

Things To Bake – Spaghetti Ice Cream

Here’s a great way to enjoy a rainy October afternoon with your little ones,  try making our exciting new pudding..

Spaghetti Ice Cream

You will need:

  • 1x Potato Masher
  • 1x Cheese Grater

Ingredients:

  • Ice Cream
  • White Chocolate
  • Raspberry Coulis
  • Raspberries

Put the ice cream into the potato masher, push through and watch the spaghetti come out..

Add raspberry coulis mixed with raspberries…

To finish, grate white chocolate on top…

Now enjoy your delicious spaghetti ice cream!

Things To Bake – Smiley Face Breakfast

It’s always lovely when your littles ones want to help make breakfast on a special occasion. Here at Toby Tiger we came up with some great breakfast ideas, easy for kids to help with, perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, mothers or fathers day and any day that is special for your family.

Smiley Face Porridge

This is a great healthy breakfast using apples, strawberries, raspberries, bananas and honey, oh and of course porridge oats!

Ask your little one what their perfect smiley face porridge breakfast would be and make sure they decide which fruit to use. You can use any fruit you like.

Using the image above, start to construct your porridge.

Final

Serve with a nice glass of juice, perfect for breakfast in bed!
